John Charles Ryle (1816 – 1900) was born in Macclesfield, England. He was the oldest son of a private banker. He studied at Eton and at Christ Church, Oxford. He proved to be both an able student and athlete. He was offered a teaching position but declined to pursue politics and eventually Anglican ministry.He was ordained a priest in 1842 and eventually became the first bishop of Liverpool in 1880. He was a strong supporter of Evangelism and took a negative view of Ritualism. He was famous for his evangelism in Liverpool as well as his preaching and his writings. This eBook collects together nearly 600 of his best articles and sermons.
